It may be full of potential, but wind power is still a young industry with many design challenges that prevent it from scaling up. From an environmental perspective, how can designers and entrepreneurs lower the technology’s impact on local ecosystems?
Ask someone what the world will look like 100 years from now, and you’ll get some answers that are truly outrageous: Robots will take over the world and harvest humans for energy, while keeping us all calm by creating a vast virtual world for us to live in.
Cities can also pivot. While much attention has been paid to the new smart cities emerging from scratch around the globe (such as Skolkovo, Russia, and PlanIt, Portugal) there are thousands of existing cities around the world seeking solutions to becoming smarter.
During the past 40 years, we have nearly tripled the amount of money we spend per student in public K-12 education. It was roughly $4,000 in 1971, and last year amounted to $11,000 per student. Over that same period time, our students’ math and verbal test scores have remained unchanged.
