Museums are able to increase visitor engagement and event visibility through photo sharing, as our work with the Royal Ontario Museum has demonstrated. On sharypic photos are collected via a hashtag or geolocation from all the major photo sharing apps, such as Instagram and Twitter.
Europeana enables people to explore the digital resources of Europes museums, libraries, archives and audio-visual collections. It promotes discovery and networking opportunities where users can engage, share in and be inspired by the rich diversity of Europes cultural and scientific heritage.
Does this mean Khan Academy is competitive with museums? Maybe. More importantly, it means that we should be looking to their model to push ourselves in how we think about delivering the most engaging, powerful content possible.
I am interested in the idea of taking art (or museum shows/collections) out of the realm of ‘institution’ and into the hands of the individual, one does not need a formal space to put things in, in order for it to be valid.
